Til August: What happened?

It was a cool idea. It never came to pass.

Time constraints were a huge factor. This is always the case with a band, but these constraints became more serious with the limited lifespan available to this band.

Lives don't just stop, either. Everybody had something going on, something major, different from the other members. In the end these things took precedence.

August came too soon. The window closed. The opportunity passed.

Will it ever happen again? Maybe. Possibly. Who knows? Everybody is a little bit older, a little bit farther along their lives' paths. Responsibilities make their demands. Deadlines and commitments. Planes to catch, and bills to pay.

And someday, maybe these people will once again say "Screw it all. Let's start a band."

Until then...

Blue Sundaze

It's starting to seem like Til August doesn't just describe the band's life expectancy, but also how long we will have to wait until they perform in public. But while we wait, the precursor bands (the ones that the members are coming from) are still around.

Blue Sundaze just announced another date - Saturday, May 21 at the Lift Inn in Lenoxville, PA from 9:30 PM to 1:30 AM. Lenoxville is 50 miles from my house, and 30 miles from Binghamton, and it will be worth the trip.

Blue Sundaze: Derrick, Ray, Rose, and John Posted by Hello

Blue Sundaze plays a very eclectic mix of songs, from a dead-on version of U2's Vertigo (which I have suggested they use as an "establishing song" - one that punches you in the mouth, takes your wallet, and pisses on your car, just to show you who's boss) to wildly energetic versions of what I used to think were lame-ass songs from the 60's and 70's (like Arlo Guthrie's drug-smuggler's lament "Mr. Customs Man", which features blazing drums and guitar.) Some of it is music to dance to, some is music to drink to, but all of it is fun. Come out May 21st and see for yourself!

First practice tonight

Oh, boy. Can't wait to hear how it goes! I wonder if anybody took a camera...

There's some talk of changing the band's name. Even if they do, I think I'll keep the blog under this name, at this address. I'll just change the descriptive sub-title to reflect the new name!

And so it begins

Most rock bands have a lot of
uncertainty when they're first starting out. Will they be able to find a sound? Will they be able to get gigs? Will they attract a crowd? Will they be able to stay together?

For Til August, the answer to the last of those questions isn't uncertain at all.

As of this writing, Til August exists only as an idea. The members have not practiced together yet, although most (if not all) of them have played together in the past. They have a song list, but it can be considered preliminary at best. They have no gigs set up.

They will be breaking up in August.

Climb on board and watch this band hurtle along a four-month path to oblivion. We know how the story's gonna end, but getting there is sure to be one hell of a ride!
